Details
Our Leicester Longwool flock is listed as “threatened” under the Livestock Conservancy. We only harvest a small number of sheep for meat each year and make every effort to use the entire animal to help preserve this breed. Each harvested ram is about 2 years old and hide measurements will range approximately 30 inches x 50 inches for an average pelt. Wool length will be typically 3-5 inches long with curls.
New in the farm store! We have two of our Heritage Leicester Longwool sheep hides back from Sterns Tanning in Milwaukee. They are absolutely the most beautiful and largest hides we have ever offered. They are machine washable and feel like butter underneath. We have ours thrown over the back of our sofa for the kids to snuggle. They are so versatile, a true statement piece and essentially a piece of history. George Washington wrote about our breed often in his farm journals at Mount Vernon. He loved their course, curly locks and durability. We are proud to shepherd this breed and adore every lamb born here on our farm. As we said before, there will only be a few of these per year because our breed is considered rare and threatened on the livestock conservancy list. We process rams for meat only when our pasture feels too much pressure from too many animals grazing. That’s our policy here. We hope you enjoy this rare opportunity to have one of your own. They are available on our website or to view in person in the farm store. Winter is coming! These are great for nights by the fire, a housewarming gift, babies or for the most spoiled and pampered of pets. They are great to line a stroller, there is nothing on earth warmer.
